Prince Hair Company is a Chicago-based, Black woman–owned brand founded by husband-and-wife team Kenyonda and Darius Prince. What began as a personal passion for beautiful, quality hair has grown into a company dedicated to offering premium hair extensions and innovative satin hair accessories that make everyday beauty more accessible.

How It Started

For Kenyonda, hair has always been part of her life story. She started doing hair at twelve years old in her mother’s kitchen, learning under the guidance of her mom, a licensed cosmetologist. While her mother specialized in natural hair care, Kenyonda was drawn to the world of weaves, extensions, and custom styles. She became fascinated by texture, quality, and how the right hair could completely transform how someone felt about themselves.

In the early days, premium hair and lace wigs were mostly reserved for celebrities and those who had access to hard-to-find vendors. Determined to bring that same level of quality to everyday women, Kenyonda built relationships with suppliers and began sourcing high-quality virgin and raw hair for her clients long before it was mainstream.

The Birth of the Original Stretch Tie Satin Bonnet

As the business grew, one challenge kept showing up. Customers were investing in beautiful installs, wigs, and extensions, but they struggled to protect their hair at night. Traditional bonnets either slipped off, were too tight, or simply did not fit the amount of hair many customers had.

Listening closely to these frustrations, Kenyonda began experimenting with a new kind of bonnet in her sewing room. She wanted something adjustable, secure, comfortable, and stylish enough that customers would actually want to wear it. This process led to the creation of the Original Stretch Tie Satin Bonnet, a custom-designed bonnet with stretch ties that can be adjusted to fit different hair lengths, textures, and styles.

What started as a solution for her existing hair clients quickly took on a life of its own. Customers loved how the bonnet stayed in place, protected their styles, and felt gentle on their edges. The bonnet became a signature product for Prince Hair Company and helped shape the brand’s identity as both a premium hair and premium hair-care accessory company.
